Mysore’s Nightlife
by Neville on Nov.12, 2009, under Photography, Travel
As most people know I love going to Mysore! I’ve always wanted to shoot images at night ever since I got my tripod but my interest for birding always seem to get in the way of that.

Light up the Night
Last weekend I ended up in Mysore but thanks to the weather conditions I had a really hard time spotting the birds and shooting them was almost impossible. So I decided to do some landscape shots at night.

Turn, Turn, Turn
Chamundi Hills is a great spot to shoot from as it gives you a nice view of the Mysore Palace and its surroundings. Lots of people there on weekdays and weekends and you might also run into crazy drunk people doing stunts on their bikes and cars. So watch out for them if your driving up there.

The Buddha at Ajanta
A few hours drive away from the city of Aurangabad lies the little village of Ajintha, not far from here lie the caves of Ajanta. The caves contain paintings and sculptures created by the Buddhists starting from around second century BCE.

The Caves
There are around 30 caves in the horseshoe shaped ravine which is surrounded by dense foliage. There are many viewpoints which give an aerial view of all the caves.

Paintings on the ceiling
Most of the caves are covered with paintings depicting the life of the Buddha from his birth to his gaining enlightenment. The works of art covering the walls, pillars and ceilings have become eroded through decay and interference by humans.

The illuminated Buddha
The massive sculptures of the Buddha that adorn certain caves are a marvel. The sculptures show the Buddha in various seated positions.
