The Courtyard
Not far from Aurangabad lies another World Heritage Site known as Ellora. Here are a series of caves, 34 to be exact, that show the tolerance (and harmony) towards different religions at the time in India. The caves were all created between the 5th and 10th century.

Immortal Embrace
A kiss shared at the temple. Its funny how we Indians have resorted to being prudes when our history is so replete with love.

The Caves
There are around 30 caves in the horseshoe shaped ravine which is surrounded by dense foliage. There are many viewpoints which give an aerial view of all the caves.

Paintings on the ceiling
Most of the caves are covered with paintings depicting the life of the Buddha from his birth to his gaining enlightenment. The works of art covering the walls, pillars and ceilings have become eroded through decay and interference by humans.

The illuminated Buddha
The massive sculptures of the Buddha that adorn certain caves are a marvel. The sculptures show the Buddha in various seated positions.
