A Shot at Product Photography
by Neville on Oct.10, 2009, under Misc, Photography
So about two months ago I decided to try my hand at product photography just to see what it was like. I had a lot of fun setting up the shots by using some household items.
Materials used in the shots below:
A half empty bottle of Bacardi Rum
An old black t-shirt
A bottle of water
A tripod
I used the bottles to hold the t-shirt up. Then placed the objects I wanted to shoot on the t-shirt so as to have a black foreground and background. The lighting used was all natural with the whole setup being placed next to a couple of windows.

Polo Sport 1

Cap On
After shooting a few of the bottle of Polo Sport I decided to try shooting another bottle of perfume that was just sitting around. It had some interesting colors and I wanted to see what it would look like.

Perfume

Adidas - Force
The last shot is a bottle of Adidas cologne which was a birthday gift from last year.
Most of these shots came out pretty good for a first timer I think. Let me know what your thoughts are about theses images.
More publicity!

Well my images of the Royal Challenger Cheerleaders seem to really be in demand. I’ve managed to get my photographs published in two magazines in Bangalore, 080 and Explocity. The first is a lifestyle magazine for Bangalore city and the other is a city guide.
Also my photographs have been used in a photo feature on http://www.starboxoffice.com/. Here is the link (http://www.starboxoffice.com/gallery/sbogallery.aspx?aid=268) to that website if any of you are interested in visiting the website.
Well I guess good things come to those who wait. I’ve been waiting for my DSLR for a long time and the amount of stuff I’ve managed to do since getting it has really pumped me up and made me even more confident that I was.
Thanks again to all those who read my blog and check out my website. Special thanks to those who visit my website and leave comments. I really appreciate it and I hope I can keep making you come back to look at all that I have to offer.
Shooting with the Pros

After a long, long. long wait I’ve managed to get myself a Nikon D80 DSLR camera. I’ve been using my trusty old P&S camera for almost 3 years now and have taken some of my best images with it. Now that I’ve had the D80 for about one month I must say the wait for the DSLR has been worth it.
The first time I used it was at the press event for the unveiling of the Royal Challenger Cheerleaders in Bangalore. I had barely touched the camera because I was so intimidated by it, but I had carried it to the stadium. My official photographer was stuck at another event on the other end of the city. So I had to pull out my camera and start shooting.
Having about 50 some photographers at the event along with at least 15 camera crews all around me was intimidating. All most all the photographers had 2 cameras hanging around their necks along with an array of lenses which they kept switching. People kept pushing each other around and the fact that we were supposed to stay about 5 meters away from the Cheerleaders didn’t help matters much.
I realized that there was no point waiting and being nervous so I just took out my camera and started clicking away. I was caught in the horde of photographers who were yelling at the event organizers while others were asking the Cheerleaders to turn this way and that. I just went with the flow and just kept taking pictures. I got yelled at for being in the frame by a couple of photographers but I realized there was no point being sorry because the event was a free for all and we had to take what we could get.
At the end of the day I was very happy with the work that I had done. I got confirmation of my good work when I managed to sell some of them to a web portal and the fact that my images will be used in two magazines in Bangalore, 080 and Explocity. A veryhappy moment for me but also a time to sit back and realize that I need to learn all I can about my camera and photography. Also I need to stop being so nervous about what people are thinking about me when shooting!
Getting noticed

Wow thanks for the great response to the website from all my friends and their friends I’ve managed to get some good hits in the first week itself. Also the photographs of the cheerleaders seem to have got me a ton of attention too.
A friend of mine at MyBangalore.com asked me if they could use my photographs for the article that they were going to write about the cheerleaders. So I gave them 4 of my images and also got photo credit for all of them in the article that she wrote. You can go to this link to read the article: Royal Challengers Bangalore Cheerleaders Unveiled
Well things seem to be going well so far. I hope to have many more images up on this website soon. There’ still a lot of places I need to travel to and bring back memories from so just biding my time for now.
Peace.
